RECIPE: Dark cherry almond smoothie

Doesn’t that just look so delicious?! Spring is quickly turning into summer here in the pacific northwest, and on these hot, dry days, I really crave something cold, sweet and refreshing! These would make a great popsicle. Blend up the smoothie and pour into popsicle molds. Pop them out for a sweet, yet healthy snack on a hot summer day!

Dark Sweet Cherries made their way into my daily wellness routine this year. The are loaded with Vitamin C making them a powerhouse antioxidant. They also have Melatonin which is helpful for improving/balancing sleep cycles and helps to tone the lower esophageal sphincter – key for those of us healing from and/or working with acid reflux. And bonus, they also are packed with anti-inflammatory anthocyanins.

INGREDIENTS:
1.5 cups frozen dark sweet cherries
1 banana
1 Tbsp unsweetened almond butter (more or less depending on your preference)
1/3 cup almond milk
1 Tbsp local raw honey
1 Tbsp wild blueberry powder
water as needed to thin consistency
chopped almonds for garnish

Blend ingredients and enjoy cold!
