I heard this line recently and it resonated so deeply. In my own healing journey over the past 5 years, I’ve found this profound and lasting connection to wellness. Without my chronic condition from which I had to find healing on my own through various modalities and lifestyle changes, I would not be as “well” as I am today and as dedicated to wellness and wellbeing.
We get one vessel and sometimes it takes a malfunction to realize the importance of optimal functioning. I am healthier today because my illness.
I wouldn’t have cut out gluten, dairy, grains and refined sugar. I wouldn’t have paid attention to when I eat, how I eat, how I cook, how I sleep, how I breathe. I wouldn’t be aware of my nutrient and mineral intake. I wouldn’t be so intimately aware of my nervous system, digestive system and the inner workings of my body. I wouldn’t be so acutely aware of balance and conversely, of imbalance. I wouldn’t speak my body language so well be able to listen when my body is telling me something.
A mystery condition without a clear path to healing forced me carve my own path, do my own research and be my own medical advocate.
Despite the misery of being sick and unwell, I wouldn’t change it for the world, for because of that experience, I found a path to health and healing that I will never stop following.
